Diabetic Foot Assessments

If you have been diagnosed with Diabetes, or know someone who has, a Podiatry consultation may be of benefit. It is crucial to understand the implications Diabetes can have for your feet and we place a great importance to make sure those who suffer from Diabetes, have healthy feet.

Diabetes can affect the feet in several ways. Some include-

  • Neuropathy. This is where the sensation in your feet is lessened. Diabetes may affect your nerves and as a direct result, you may not be able to feel the bottom of your feet or experience ongoing tingling or burning sensations.

  • Vascular problems. Like nerves, diabetes may also result in decreased blood flow to your lower extremities. During every consultation, we actively check to ensure your blood flow and healing is adequate.

  • Dermatological conditions. Diabetes can also cause breaks in skin, ulcers, infections, or fissured skin. We address these by managing your infections and treat your skin and nails through routine care, thus reducing your risk of delayed healing.

The tests we provide for diabetic foot assessments include:

  1. Neurological assessments – testing your nerve sensation

  2. Vascular assessments – assessing your blood flow and healing rates

  3. Musculoskeletal assessments – checking your range of motion and joint mobility

  4. Dermatological assessments – diagnosing and treating any anomalies in your skin and nails

With all the above-mentioned assessments, we also provide palliative care during the consultation as well. This is where we tidy up the skin and nails, remove corns, calluses, thickened toenails and treat any breaks in skin through dressings. In addition, we also assess your footwear, provide education, and monitor your diabetes so you remain one step ahead.

We endeavor to keep you active and comfortable and it is our job to ensure your feet remain healthy.
